Diaries, 1833-1838.

Diaries kept by Joshua Millet from 1833 to 1838. The first volume, dated 1833, contains descriptions of Millet's experiences and spiritual concerns while a student at the Newton Theological Institution and includes notes from lectures there. The second volume, 1835-1836, covers his first preaching experiences in Maine as a visiting pastor and beginning in 1836 as pastor of the church in Charleston, Maine. The third volume, 1837-1838, continues to record his thoughts and activities as pastor in Charleston and concludes with his move to Cherryfield, Maine, to become pastor of the Baptist church there.

Joshua Millet, born in 1803, was a Baptist minister in Maine in the 1830s and 1840s and was the author of the book "A history of the Baptists in Maine," published in 1845. He studied at the Newton Theological Institution in Newton, Mass. and was a visiting pastor at churches in Carmel, Orono, Dexter and Sangerville, Maine.
